Animax brings hit animes in 2016 with Express-from-Japan and Blockbuster Series!

Start the year right with great anime from Animax.  The first 24-hour anime channel in Asia brings to you a fresh crop of anime including express-from-Japan series Pandora in the Crimson Shell: Ghost Urn, GRIMGAR, ASHES AND ILLUSIONS, and blockbuster series Assassination Classroom and The File of Young Kindaichi R.

DuraraDon’t miss the final chapter of the new season on the Durarara franchise on the same day as Japan.  Durarara x2 3rd Arc premieres on the same day as Japan, on 10 January 2016 at 10pm, Sunday, so be sure to watch it.

Adapted from the light novel of the same name, Durarara is popular among anime lovers for its engaging storytelling – each event is retold in different perspectives, making for more episodes to look forward to! Back to stir up trouble in the dangerous Ikebukuro underground are the franchise’s distinct and eccentric characters – the headless rider Celty Sturluson, Mikado Ryugamine, leader of the notorious colour gang Dollars, and his childhood friend Masaomi Kida, who incidentally is the head honcho of another gang, the Yellow Scarves. With some new characters and the return of original director Takahiro Omori, the stage is set for what’s been described as “an ending that no one will see coming”.

Fresh from Japan: Two hit anime series to premiere on Animax within weeks from Japan’s telecast!

Pandora in the Crimson Shell: Ghost Urn.  The sci-fi action series follows Nanakorobi Nene, a cybernetically-enhanced girl who moves to Cenancle, where she will learn that there is more to the island than meets the eye. When a super-powered terrorist attacks the island, she teams up with her new-found friends and discovers powers she never knew she possessed.  The series premieres on 23 January 2016, every Saturday at 11.30pm.

GRIMGAR, ASHES AND ILLUSIONS. The anime centers on the adventures of Haruhiro. His world is surrounded by darkness – purpose and mission undefined. He remembers nothing but his name. And when he emerges from the darkness, he is greeted by a world that seems like a scene out of a video game. To survive the seemingly dangerous and uncharted world of Grimgar, Haruhiro has to form an alliance with like-minded people and equip themselves with essential fightin abilities.  This series premiere on 2 February 2016, every Tuesday at 8pm.

Are you ready for this?  The much anticipated anime series Assassination Classroom is finally coming to Animax.  Watch the story about an endearing homeroom teacher who is also an octopus-like alien plotting to ruin Earth. With a plot like that, it is no wonder that the series is already expecting another season PLUS its second film!

Assassination Classroom premieres on 4 January 2016, with two back-to-back episodes every Monday and Tuesday at 10pm.

CSM Publishing releases promising Pinoy Manga

MA-I Books

CSM Publishing successfully launched Ma-i during the recently concluded Manila International Book Fair (MIBF) at the SMX Convention Center in SM Mall of Asia.  The launch of the new pinoy manga/komiks culminated with “Araw ng Ma-i” (Day of Ma-i) on Sunday, September 20 as cosplayers from Naruto Cosplayers PH (NCPH) portrayed the various characters of the comics.  CSM and NCPH entered into a partnership to promote this new pinoy manga.

Araw_ng_Ma-i_comics_manga (13)Lakan (David D’Angelo Jr.) and Luta (Helen Cleodara D’Angelo) impressed the creators of Ma-i because according to them they were indeed very similar with the characters even their age.  Dara even admitted that like Luta she also likes to eat while Jr’s body features is very similar to Lakan.

Arya Chelabian and Faye Villanueva exchanged discussion with Lakan and Luta as they were the ones initially presented.  Later in the day other characters were introduced including Aman (Benjie Casi), Makaka (Jan Christian Cascaro), Apo Guinoo (Ferrari Lacson), Kal’lila (David D’Angelo) and Tiktik (Fatima Jongco).  The group performed an impromptu skit which coincided with Ma-i.

“Nabasa nyo na ba ang komiks?” (Have you read the comics?) Arya asked after the skit but the fact is since the comics was not yet released the skit was just based on the character profile given to the group.

Here are the rest of the cast of Ma-i comics cosplay:

Araw_ng_Ma-iInitial Book Review of Ma-i

We have read the initial 5 books of Ma-i and we are very impressed with the story line, the drawing and the character development.  So far Book 4: Ang Alitaptap is the best which would probably put you into an emotional state due to the turn of events.

Ma-i is very different from other Pinoy Komiks since it’s storyline is not the traditional superhero style or school scene which dominates most of the comics we see at conventions.  Thus, this would be something we should consider reading since it will also make us explore our own country.

About MA-I

MA-I is about a fictional world called MA-I, where harmony among the land and its mystical creatures had been marred by a dark being named Ka’lila, and a young boy named Lakan, together with his friends, must take on the quest to defeat this darkness which is larger than themselves.

The initial release has five books (chapters) entitled “1 – Si Lakan,” “2 – Palaboy,” “3 – Si Malakas at Si Maganda,” “4- Ang Alitaptap,” and “5 – Aman at Makaka,” focusing on the main characters in the series and their initial forays into the epic struggle between good and evil. Each book also features a trivia page about the Filipino culture and items (such as crafts and weapons) common during the Philippine pre-colonial era.

Each book contains more than 50 pages and will be sold for less than P100. The whole series is planned to have 60 books when completed.

Genre: Shounen (young boys), Action, Fantasy, Comedy

About the authors of Ma-i:

Arya Chelabian grew up learning valuable lessons from local folklore and novels as well as Eastern (manga) and Western comics. He is a graduate of Industrial Engineering at Mapua Institute of Technology where he spent his vacant time at the fire exit with friends, playing Hunter and Legend of the Five Rings, and sharing stories written by both famous and unknown authors. His love for values found in the Bible and the beauty of the Filipino ethnic culture drove him to write this story. He believes that stories can influence the next generation with important life lessons the way stories of old have influenced him. He is an engineer by profession.

Faye Villanueva has been creating stories and drawing since she was a toddler. Her influences are classic and Christian novels, Japanese and Western comics. She attended intensive story writing workshops (mostly for film) during her college and working years (as a Communications graduate and practitioner). For the past decade, she has contributed her designs and illustrations to various published books in the Philippines. She now desires to bridge the gap between otakus (manga and anime fans) and God. Attack on Titan (Shingeki No Kyojin) Live Action is A Must See

Naruto Cosplayers PH (NCPH) was invited by AMUSE Philippines and Pioneer Films to the premiere night of Attack on Titan Live Action at SM Megamall Cinema 2.  Amuse Team Philippines is an unofficial street team for Amuse Inc. in Japan that is committed in aiming to spread information about Amuse artists and develop strong promotion here in the Philippines and abroad.

Attack-On-Titan-Live-Action-Part-1 (4)Despite some negative reviews and some heated arguments about the changes in the Attack on Titan (Shingeki No Kyojin) Live Action, it still remains to be a must see for both fans and the general public.  Some would say they change Eren and Mikasa, they removed Levi and it is totally different.

We would say yes, it is indeed different and you should regard this movie as one totally separate from the anime.  So why did Eren’s character change?  We found out that it was Attack on Titan creator, Hajime Isayama’s idea.

“Please change Eren’s character,” Isayama pleaded of the writers. “He’s not that sympathetic as a shōnen manga hero. …I want him to be an ordinary youngster who gets paralyzed with fear when he sees a titan.” – according to an article published at iDigitalTimes.

Meanwhile, the removal of Levi was mainly because he is a non-Japanese character.    Here is an excerpt from the same news article.

So in regards to Levi’s character being excluded from the Attack on Titan live-action movie, according to Machiyama, the Japanese setting made the inclusion of the katakana “vu” in one’s name stick out too much, as no Japanese name would normally include that character.

And since this version of the story will take place in Japan and take on a more Japanese tone the producers didn’t want to cast Japanese actors in Caucasian roles. It was easier to just omit the character than to change Levi’s name all together.

Despite these issues which had circulated online for quite sometime the premiere of SNK Live Action was full packed and in fact some of the audience are already standing.

If you are not convinced with why this movie should be a must watch and what to expect from Attack on Titan Live Action, here is a movie review from OtakuPlay –
