Attack-On-Titan-Live-Action-Part-1 (4)Despite some negative reviews and some heated arguments about the changes in the Attack on Titan (Shingeki No Kyojin) Live Action, it still remains to be a must see for both fans and the general public.  Some would say they change Eren and Mikasa, they removed Levi and it is totally different.

We would say yes, it is indeed different and you should regard this movie as one totally separate from the anime.  So why did Eren’s character change?  We found out that it was Attack on Titan creator, Hajime Isayama’s idea.

“Please change Eren’s character,” Isayama pleaded of the writers. “He’s not that sympathetic as a shōnen manga hero. …I want him to be an ordinary youngster who gets paralyzed with fear when he sees a titan.” – according to an article published at iDigitalTimes.

Meanwhile, the removal of Levi was mainly because he is a non-Japanese character.    Here is an excerpt from the same news article.

So in regards to Levi’s character being excluded from the Attack on Titan live-action movie, according to Machiyama, the Japanese setting made the inclusion of the katakana “vu” in one’s name stick out too much, as no Japanese name would normally include that character.

And since this version of the story will take place in Japan and take on a more Japanese tone the producers didn’t want to cast Japanese actors in Caucasian roles. It was easier to just omit the character than to change Levi’s name all together.

Despite these issues which had circulated online for quite sometime the premiere of SNK Live Action was full packed and in fact some of the audience are already standing.

If you are not convinced with why this movie should be a must watch and what to expect from Attack on Titan Live Action, here is a movie review from OtakuPlay –

CSM Publishing partners with Naruto Cosplayers PH (NCPH) for the promotion if its newest comics entitled “MA-I.”  Ma-i is an emerging manga series that is uniquely Pinoy from its drawings, to its characters and its story line.  It is something that both hopes to inspire an interest among fans of various comics genre.

Ma-i is classified under the Shounen (young boys), Action, Fantasy, Comedy genre with its primary target audience being boys from 13-19 years old.  It also aims to capture girls, as well as younger and older comic book readers.

MA-I: An emerging manga series that is uniquely Pinoy

Adventure stories in comics form used to occupy a secure niche in Pinoy literature. But for decades now, Filipino comic readers have been more fascinated with foreign publications rather than indigenous ones, and our original Pinoy comics have been relegated to the background.

Ma-o Chapter 1: Si Lakan

Ma-i Chapter 1: Si Lakan

Written in a uniquely Pinoy manga style, MA-I aims to recapture the interest of today’s generation and to reintroduce Filipino youth to the richness of our own culture and history while promoting positive values using Filipino mythology and legends—which puts the material on a par with mainstream comics series that feature Western or Japanese culture.

About MA-I

MA-I is about a fictional world called MA-I, where harmony among the land and its mystical creatures had been marred by a dark being named Ka’lila, and a young boy named Lakan, together with his friends, must take on the quest to defeat this darkness which is larger than themselves.

The initial release has five books (chapters) entitled “Si Lakan,” “Palaboy,” “Si Malakas at Si Maganda,” “Ang Alitaptap,” and “Aman at Makaka,” focusing on the main characters in the series and their initial forays into the epic struggle between good and evil. Each book also features a trivia page about the Filipino culture and items (such as crafts and weapons) common during the Philippine pre-colonial era.

Each book contains more than 50 pages and will be sold for less than P100. The whole series is planned to have 60 books when completed.

Cosplaying for Mai

Naruto Cosplayers PH (NCPH) will officially be providing cosplayers for Ma-i.  The cosplayers will initially appear on the book launch at the 36th Manila International Book Fair during  “Araw ng MA-I” on September 20, 2:30pm.

TOYCON Philippines 2015: The Country’s biggest pop-culture event celebrates its 14th Year  with Battlefields of Play

Those of us who grew up in the pre-social media era or even the pre-electronic gaming age remember a time when “Play” was associated with the outdoors. We fondly remember halcyon days of setting up toy soldiers in the hilly terrain of our own backyard or lining up our Star Wars action figures to go into battle with our He-Man toys in the wonderland of our childhood bedroom.

Those were the days, when our imagination knew no limits and the fantasy characters of comics, cartoons and movies were our genuine playmates; ready to defend and protect us, by the Power of Greyskull or by the all-encompassing Force, forging into battle with the evil hordes of Cobra, the Legion of Doom or armies of Decepticons.

We never knew it, but our childhood was fraught with glory in our Battlefields of Play. And this is what we celebrate once again, as a clarion call sounds to dust off our toys and wage war once again with glee and joy in our hearts.

The Philippine TOYCON, Asia’s biggest and longest running convention for toys, anime, comics, cosplay, gaming and anything and everything related to hobbies and collections is now on its 14th year of thrilling fans and aficionados alike.
