10 Reasons Why History Con is One of the Best Conventions

HistoryCon is a pop culture convention organized by History Channel together with Viva Productions.  No doubt that it has been one of the most memorable conventions of 2017.  Naruto Cosplayers PH (NCPH) is one of the official partners of HisCon this year and we would like to give the 10 Reasons Why History Con is One of the Best Conventions.

ONE – History Con is educational.

Among all the pop culture conventions happening in the Philippines, History Con is the most educational.  It does not only offer what you want to see but also what you must see.  The content of the convention gives you an opportunity to increase your knowledge as well as learn a lot of new things.

TWO – It’s a cosplayers haven

History Con’s respect for cosplayers is commendable.  They are the first convention to offer complimentary passes to cosplayers as a way of giving gratitude for the hobby and in making them part of the great event.  They also offer the stage to cosplayers for 3 days plus huge prizes for them including a Php22K worth of Singer sewing machine to all winners.

THREE – Liquor’s Abound

If you love to drink and have fun then History Con 2017 in Manila also gave you that opportunity.  Enjoy beer pong with every Tanduay punch made fresh and just for you.  Some of our friends did get drunk during the event and branded it also as Tanduay Con.  You can also see some of the Outlaws, which are bike riders to be drinking beer and just roaming around the venue.

FOUR – Novelty Items

If you are looking for items which you can add to your collection then History Con Manila 2017 served its purpose.  We saw all sort of novelty items from old newspaper clippings, records, Coca-cola items, old bikes and card and more.  You will definitely be satisfied with every item that you will get here.  If you have missed History Con 2017 then better not miss the next one.

FIVE – Big Displays

Life size statues and collectibles that brought us in awe are also very memorable.  Imagine seeing Voltez V, Mazinger Z, Daimos and other super robot together as one in the booth of Mr. Jerry Santos.  Besides that we also saw tons of other items and collectibles from Metals Die Cast, MaxiCollector, Gunpla, Anotoys, Halimaw! Sculptures and more.

SIX – Celebrities

History Con brings to the Philippines the starts of History Asia.  We enjoyed the company of Corey Harrison of Pawn Stars, “Horny” Mike Henry of Counting Cars, Danielle Colby of The Pickers, Ryu Lim of Forged in Fire, Jaime Dempsey of Ride ‘N Seek, Justin Mott of Photo Face-Off, Phoemala Baranda of Celebrity Car Wars, and of course the FYI celebrities from Tiny House Nation and Destination Flavour.

SEVEN – Relevant Talks

Learning and education is why History Asia exist and why History Con is being done in the first place.  As part of our contribution we had our special segment about Cosplay Against Bullying which was presented by Derek Asul of Blue Pirate Channel together with Ross del Rosario of Wazzup Pilipinas.  There the topic about bullying was discussed and how cosplayers can help in the cause.  We also had very inspiring and educational talks from Dr. Ambeth Ocampo, Dr. Ted Esguerra, Roland Jay Miguel. Ram Mallari. Barry Wilmore, Paolo Ollero, and Robert Rubin.

EIGHT – History Con is Affordable

Despite the tons of guests and activities, the event remained affordable for everyone.  It brings events like this closes to the people and more popular.

NINE – Jacque Ruby

If not for this person, History Con Manila Philippines would not be as successful as it had been.  Despite being in the head management of History Channel, Jacque maintained a low profile image and mingled with other event attendees.  He always made sure that everyone is enjoying the event.

TEN – History Con Manila is coming back better

We can safely assure that History Con would be happening again next year and we hope that there will be more things to look forward to.  I also hope that they will invite more celebrities from their show and bring back Kevin Burns from Ancient Aliens.

Here are some shots of History Con Manila 2017.  For more photos please click this link.

Is there a double standard in Cosplay?

With cosplay becoming mainstream we would like to ask you if there exist a double standard in Cosplay?  What if a woman dress as a sexy or revealing character how would you react?  What if it is a male dressed as a sexy male or a genderbend female character?  Would there be any difference?

Take a look at this video from Naruto Cosplayers US and see what they have to say.

What about you, what do you think?

Cosplay Against Bullying needs YOU now!

Naruto Cosplayers PH (NCPH) is in full support of the efforts of our counterpart Naruto Cosplayers USA (NCUS) to raise funds to support the Cosplay Against Bullying Campaign.  We all all part of a group of sci-fi/fantasy enthusiasts dedicating our time to spreading a message of friendship and ending hate both on and offline.

CAB-profile1More than a year ago, Myk Castillo from the Philippines started a Facebook Page to promote “Cosplay Against Bullying.”  The page grew and cosplayers began to join in the campaign by sending their photos and creating images and quotes to support and spread the campaign.  In 2014, we began spreading the campaign as part of our official CausePlay activities.

In that same year, Naruto Cosplayers US was formally formed and since bullying is a major issue in the US, the campaign moved its way to the United States through a small group of people with a dream to mitigate the effects of bullying in schools, workplaces, and anywhere else it can occur.

Given that the problem can happen to anyone, and that it is a problem so wide spread, the dream to inspire others to fight against it seemed impossible and doomed to fail. In the last 8 months of the activity in the states, however,  followers on all CAB’s social media outlets have more than doubled in a short amount of time.

However, this campaign needs your support more than ever.  We encourage you to support the fund raising initiative below and share whatever you can to add more fuel to this campaign and spread it as well.

These funds that will be donated will go to expenses related to the campaign ONLY. Examples include, but not limited to: travel expenses, annual website fees, photography equipment repair, or anything used to contribute to the cosplay site. We also help fund organizations that work with us to help fight against things like verbal harassment, sexual assault, spousal abuse, etc. These funds, however, WILL NOT be used to fund personal expenses such as costumes, items for sale at conventions, autographs/pictures with celebrities, etc. Those types of items are personal purchases and we pay for those ourselves 🙂

We thank you in advance for your support. Please spread this campaign to as many people as you can. This is not about us but about those who will need our help and together we can make a difference.

Cosplayers Bayanihan – A CausePlay for Habitat for Humanity

CausePlay, coined by Naruto Cosplayers PH (NCPH) which literally means Cosplay for a Cause is a way to help various advocacy and causes to bring cosplayers and the community closer to making a difference and helping people.  It is the season of giving and what if you could really make a difference for the life of a family? What if there is a way to really help them bounce back again?  This is the main question behind “Cosplayers Bayanihan – A CausePlay for Habitat for Humanity.

For the year 2014-2015, Naruto Cosplayers PH would like to help our fellow Kababayans who are still affected by super typhoon “Haiyan” (locally known as “Yolanda”). Together with Habitat for Humanity Philippines, let’s help raise additional funds to sustain its ongoing rehabilitation efforts in building disaster resilient homes for numerous families and communities.

Cosplay Bayanihan will be launched on November 9 during the “CausePlay Open Photoshoot by Aishiteru Anime (AA) and Naruto Cosplayers PH (NCPH)” at the Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife.  The event wants to contribute to the Habitat for Humanity Race to 200K and also to Cosplay Against Bullying.

As cosplayers we join the cause to sponsor 1 unit of housing for #YolandaPH survivors in Leyte. This home will serve as a new hope for their family. If we could all join together, we could achieve something big.  We will ask donations for this project and all donations will go directly to Habitat for Humanity.  This is not only limited to cosplayers but also to everyone who wants to make a change and help others.

How much do we need to raise?

The minimum amount is P200,000 for a typhoon and earthquake resilient shelter for 1 family.  If all of us would unite and pull our acts together, we can make this a possibility.

Let us make our call once again for it is not about us but about all of us working together to build homes again, to help build lives and create a brighter future. SPREAD THE WORD and DONATE. Your donations will truly be a gift to the survivors of Yolanda.  Let us all be NARUTO. IN REAL LIFE.

Ready to donate and help Cosplayers Bayanihan – A CausePlay for Habitat for Humanity?

Happy Birthday Uzumaki Naruto and Naruto Cosplayers PH (NCPH)

NCPH tarp - modifiedOctober 10 is the official birthday of Uzumaki Naruto and coincidentally it is also the founding anniversary of Naruto Cosplayers PH (NCPH).  The organization was established on October 10, 2010 (10-10-10) by Longskie Saldana, David D’Angelo, John Dwight D’Angelo, Matt Anthony Jabonete, Rio Magpayo and Nathan Nocillado.  It started as a mere group of cosplayers wanted to cosplay Naruto characters and later evolved as an organization promoting “Cosplay for a Cause” or #CausePlay.

NCPH had been at the forefront of innovations in the cosplay community since then.  Some of its innovation includes:

  • Balance criteria for judging in cosplay competition giving 25% weight uniformity.
  • Rebranding of Mecha category to Mecha/Armor to give more chances to those who are non-mecha.
  • Introduction of Cosplay for a Cause through “Otaku I Care” and reaching out to various causes.
  • Introduced the first ever pinoy-themed event Pinoy Otaku Festival (though this has yet to be fully implemented.)
  • First ever local cosplay organization to branch out internationally through Naruto Cosplayers International and Naruto Cosplayers US.
  • Pioneered events in areas like SM City Marilao, SM City Valanzuela, SM City Baliwag, SM City Masinag, Waltermart Sta. Maria, and Starmall among others.
  • Introduced Cosplay Idol, the only true cosplay + talent cosplay competition.
  • Pioneered Otaku Choice Awards, the only award giving body in the community which gets nominees and votes from the community itself.

Trials and hardships are part of any organization including Naruto Cosplayers PH (NCPH) but with the help of everyone we will surely manage to triumph over each and everyone of them.  We greatly value the community that we belong that is why we will continue to be of service to fellow cosplayers, anime fans, manga readers, artists, photographers and more.

What is behind Naruto Cosplayers PH (NCPH)?  What does it do?  What inspired us?  Let us share this article from Otaku House to tell you more about us, just click this link.

We greatly give thanks to our allied groups and affiliates which includes HTP : Team Suna, Z Warriors, Aishiteru Anime, Anime Cosplay Colors, Anime Cosplay Empire (A.C.E), Anima Infinity Cosplay Organization, Original Tarlac Cosplayers Unlimited, PATTS – Otaku Alliance, Philippine Gaming Cosplayers, Anime Corner Group Pilipinas, Hall of Cosplayers and Otakus, King of Fighters Cosplay Group, Otaku Zutto, and United Anime Council.

We also give our sincerest appreciation to all our partners and sponsors which includes Spin Manila BusTV, RRCG Transit, Rockx Tees, Best of Anime, Cherry Credits, The Corner Tree Cafe, Cubizone Philippines, Gorgeous Shoppe, Great Toys Online, Hero TV, L5R Productions, Mogu-Mogu, O-Mise, Otaku Asia Anime Magazine, The Sci-Fi Cafe, Reimaru Files, Otakista, The Cosplay Cafe –, Anime Pilipinas, Deremoe, Anime PH, Devangelic Shop, Let’s Go Legit, Red Cloud Events and Productions, Toys Kolektibols, Funk Sinatra and many more. (View full list).

This year, we plan to do more awesome events and we want to ask for your involvement.  We also hope to promote Cosplay Against Bullying as one of our regular advocacy and spread it worldwide.

One of our dreams is that one day we can have a convention for a cause where other cosplayers and Otakus from around the world would come to the Philippines without paying for their transportation and accomodation.  They would come because they want to join us and have fun.

Again our sincerest thanks in making our 4 YEARS a success.  Happy Birthday Uzumaki Naruto and again Happy 4th Year Anniversary Naruto Cosplayers PH (NCPH).
